Forward
/ Reverse Synchroniser Set Up
To
ensure that the forward / reverse synchroniser support shaft components
function correctly, it is necessary to have a clearance of 0.5 mm, this is
obtained by installing shims behind the bearing retaining clamp and snap ring
'A'.
To
prevent components binding under their own weight, it is recommended to carry
out this shimming procedure in a vertical position. The rear end components
must be installed, as well as the rear top shaft bearing retainer and
mid-section cover plate, with all bolts tightened to the correct torque value.
Correct
Installation Procedure:-
Measure
A
(thickness of the bearing clamp), this measurement can be taken before the
transmission is assembled.
(see Attachments 1 and 2)
(see Attachments 1 and 2)
Assemble
all the parts including the clamp without any shims, and tighten the bolts
progressively. Ensure the forward / reverse components within the
mid-section are at zero clearance by rotating and “feeling” them
tighten slightly as the retaining clamp is tightened to 15Nm.
Measure B
B = The front face of the bearing clamp to the mid section front cover.
B = The front face of the bearing clamp to the mid section front cover.
The
required clearance for the components
is 0.5
mm.
The
shim thickness required is C + 0.5mm (Where C = B – A).
Install the desired shim pack between the
bearing clamp and the bearing snap ring, then tighten the retaining clamp to
25Nm
Forward
/ Reverse and 4/5 Synchroniser Fork Set Up
(The adjustment procedure is the same for both rails)
(The adjustment procedure is the same for both rails)
Remove
the top cover plate to gain access to the synchroniser forks.
A neutral position does
not exist on
either of the rails, remove the detent mechanism (‘D’, ball and plunger) for
the selector fork rail
Using
a suitable lever move the synchroniser towards the rear of the transmission
into the fully engaged position, measure ‘F’ (See attachment 6). Move the
synchroniser towards the front of the transmission into the fully engaged
position, measure ‘G’. (See attachment 7)
Neutral
Position = (F+G) / 2.
Locally
manufacture a locking tool ‘E’ and insert in place of the normal detent
mechanism
Insert
the locking tool to centralise the rail. Carefully adjust the fork to the
calculated neutral position being careful not to force the rail which could
result in damaging the locking tool.
Tighten
the fork locking screws to 27Nm, and the locking nuts to 22Nm.
